As part of our focus to optimise the design process we utilise our experience in ‘Plastic Injection Moulding Technologies’. Plastic injection moulding technologies are used in the production of high volume, repeatable parts.
They are also used as a rapid manufacturing (RM) process to prove designed parts, their functions and performance characteristics, before committing to expensive tooling for manufacture and testing of a concept.
Tooling for these processes can be very expensive and it is therefore crucial in the design phase to minimise costs, as the cost per part, in mass produced items can be very small. It is crucial when designing products that consideration is given on how they will be formed, removal from the mould, the structural properties and amount of material to be used in the final product.
Plastic injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts and can be applied to multiple environments using, polymers, sometimes referred to as resins, including all thermoplastics, some thermosets and elastomers, thermoplastics and thermosetting plastic materials.
The available materials are alloys or blends of previously developed materials, meaning that product designers can choose from a vast selection of materials. This allows key considerations to be made before modelling the part and tooling, to provide one that has exactly the right properties.
